Welcome to PinceBurc Studio!

My name is Ted Burcaw, I live in Alleghany County in the Blue Ridge mountains of NC. The beauty and history of this environment have a tremendous influence on my artwork and my life. I am also Moravian pastor, and the traditions and symbols of the Moravian Church have also inspired many of the pieces I create.

All of my paintings are acrylic on raw wood, finished with several coats of oil-based exterior urethane.

My work may best be described as a form of folk art.

Barn quilt square paintings are a form of public art seen on barns and buildings in Alleghany County and surrounding areas, and beyond. I paint both traditional and original patterns, inspired by traditional quilt patterns. My quilt squares are generally 24x24; I also paint smaller and larger dimensions up to 48x48. Each design is unique and can represent a variety of themes, including family history, local culture, or personal symbolism.

I also paint familiar landmarks in Alleghany and Ashe Counties on wooden discs, mostly old farmhouses, general stores, and barns. The discs are 9” to 15’ x 1” on solid wood. The “discs” can be mounted on exterior and interior walls, and can also be used as stool tops or small coffee table tops.

I grew up in the Moravian faith tradition, which has many symbolic representations that are often seen during the holidays around the world. My favorite is the Moravian star, which I paint in various colors. I am currently painting sets of coasters of the Moravian beeswax candle, Moravian star, and other renderings for the holidays. See my “Recent Work” Page.

I have some pieces in stock and available for purchase; I mostly paint to order or customer commission, and my rates vary based on the complexity and size of the piece.
